The Paznauntal Valley is famous among wintersports enthusiasts first and foremost thanks to the Silvretta Arena in Ischgl, but nearby Galtür is also a ski resort well worth a visit with snowsure slopes and plenty of pistes to choose from.
The main mountain above Galtür is the 2,671-metre-high Ballunspitze, whose north-facing slopes house a selection of pistes for all abilities. The slopes even extend over the border into the neighbouring province of Vorarlberg. Though the resort is not as large as places like the Silvretta Arena, it has been designed to accommodate skiers, snowboarders, freeriders and cross-country skiers. The resort is divided up into several sectors, with each aimed at a particular type of skier and, in some cases, a particular age group. These areas are called Zwergerlwelt (Dwarf World), Actionpark and Heldenreich (Heroes Empire) and offer lots of action and adventure for youngsters. Night skiing under the floodlights is offered once a week. Parents who wish to get out and explore the resort together can leave their children in the experienced hands of the childcare experts at the on-mountain kindergarten. And if you do fancy something new, there are three more ski resorts in the Paznauntal Valley: the Silvretta Arena in Ischgl as well as the smaller resorts of Kappl and See.
