The village is located near the entrance to the Zillertal Valley on the slopes of the 1,336m high Reither Kogel mountain, home to a small ski resort in winter and hiking area in summer. This quiet municipality with 1,050 inhabitants is an excellent starting point for outdoor activities such as walking and mountaineering. Getting there in style could not be easier thanks to the traditional narrow gauge Zillertalbahn railway which serves the valley and sometimes still runs steam-powered locomotives. Running alongside the railway track is the flat Zillertal Cycle Path leading into the valley. Keen swimmers will find a natural lake in neighbouring Schlitters as well as a range of pools and saunas at the Erlebnistherme Zillertal in Fügen.
