Birgitz, together with its neighbouring villages of Axams and Grinzens, lies on a sunny plateau overlooking the regional capital Innsbruck.
This traditional village home to around 1,400 inhabitants is less than 10 kilometres south of Innsbruck, making it an ideal holiday destination in both summer and winter. Far from the hustle and bustle of the city, it invites visitors to explore the surrounding mountains, including the craggy Kalkkögel peaks, on foot or by bike. Just down the road is the lively village of Axams, which hosted competitions during the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck. The Freizeitzentrum Axams leisure centre is open all year. As well as swimming pools and saunas, it offers beach volleyball and an indoor bouldering wall. During the winter months the nearby Axamer Lizum ski resort has a selection of pistes, toboggan runs and a Snow & Fun Park to keep skiers and snowboarders entertained.
