The idyllic village of Berwang is the highest settlement in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena holiday region. It offers several sports acitvities such as skiing, hiking and mountain biking.
Berwang has a population of just 560 inhabitants and lies at over 1,300m altitude, making it the ideal starting point for hikes, mountain bike rides and short ski tours. A small ski resort above the village is popular with beginners and families. During the summer months hikers can explore a number of trails leading through the remote Berwangertal Valley with its hamlets of Mitteregg, Brand, Bichlbächle and Gröben, which all form part of the same municipality. Lush green meadows filled with blooming flowers line the way. On hot days there is no better place to cool off than the Bärenbad, a small open air swimming pool in a forest on the edge of Berwang. Beer lovers should pay a visit the Hotel Thaneller in Rinnen, home to the highest brewery in Austria.
