Nestled in the Pustertal Valley, between the villages of Leisach and Anras, lies the pretty village of Assling.
Home to around 1,800 inhabitants, Assling is very much a "soft tourism" destination. That means visitors will not find big ski resorts in winter or state-of-the-art cable cars for hiking in summer. Instead, Assling has stayed true to its roots and remains a haven of peace and quiet. That doesn't mean to say that there isn't plenty to see and do. The Freizeitzentrum Vithal leisure centre, for example, has a large water slide, an adventure playground and an area for basketball, volleyball and football. The Erlebniswelt Assling is also well worth a visit with its collection of animals native to the region. In sumer the "Fun Alpin Osttirol" summer toboggan run is great for families. Those who can keep their eyes peeled as they whizz down the mountain might even be lucky enough to see a deer! In winter the region offers activities such as ski touring, tobogganing an cross-country skiing along the Drau river.
