Holidays in the Achensee region

Mountain region with a touch of maritime flair: the holiday region around Tyrol's largest lake presents itself as a varied, family-friendly destination - in all seasons.

If you stand on the shores of Lake Achensee in summer, you will find an atmosphere that you would hardly expect in the mountains: beaches with turquoise-blue water, sailors and surfers chasing over the waves and excursion boats with happy holidaymakers on board. This is why some locals call Lake Achensee the "Tyrolean Sea" - with a wink, of course. Even Austria's emperors appreciated the crystal-clear, picturesque lake between the Karwendel mountains and the Brandenberg Alps as a summer holiday destination.

Hiking and skiing high above the "Tyrolean Sea"

The landscape of the region is particularly diverse: from the village of Wiesing in the Inntal valley 360 metres below to the maritime-looking lake with its villages of Maurach, Achenkirch and Pertisau to the idyllic municipality of Steinberg, which is somewhat hidden away in the Rofan mountains. A seemingly limitless network of hiking trails, mountain and mountain bike routes criss-crosses the impressive mountain world of the Karwendel and Rofan nature parks. Three particularly beautiful stages of the Tyrolean Eagle Trail also run through the region. There are two golf courses for a relaxing tee-off in between. And in winter, four ski areas with around 30 cable cars and lifts ensure relaxed fun on the slopes. The Achensee region is one of the quality-certified "Tyrolean Family Nests" because there is also a wide range of leisure activities for children and many accommodations are specially geared towards families.
