Lake Achensee, the "Sea of Tyrol" and the largest lake in Tyrol, shimmers turquoise blue and its shores are freely accessible all around. Swimming and splashing around are just as much the order of the day here as sailing, SUPing, surfing, diving, pedal boating and more.
Lake Achensee is Tyrol's largest lake. Its five resorts are nestled in the fascinating mountain landscape of the Karwendel and Rofan mountains in the heart of the Alps. Whether summer or winter, wellness or family holidays - find out about top holiday offers and join us on a discovery tour.
Winter Holiday
Embedded in a breathtaking natural backdrop, the Achensee region also attracts visitors with its varied, high-quality holiday offers in winter. Especially families get their money's worth while skiing. And for Nordic athletes, the region has long since emerged as a top cross-country skiing centre.
The unique landscape of Tyrol's largest lake speaks for itself: snow-capped peaks, five picturesque villages and a white glittering landscape that promises pure winter magic. Paired with the perfect holiday offer of cross-country skiing, skiing, touring, winter hiking and new trend sports such as snowkiting or paragliding in winter, holiday at the Achensee offers everything that makes your heart beat faster.
The region is best known for its extensive cross-country skiing offer.
With more than 200 kilometres of cross-country trails for classic cross-country skiers and skaters, its own practice trail, barrier-free cross-country skiing and snowmaking facilities in several holiday resorts, the Achensee maintains its pioneering role in cross-country skiing in Tyrol.
The Achensee region offers a total of four ski resorts and two training facilities with around 53 km of pistes. These areas are known primarily for their great family friendliness and the special offer for skiers. The six ski schools offer the appropriate course offerings.
If you want to discover the winter wonderland on the Achensee off-piste, you can let off steam on the five toboggan runs or relax in one of the Karwendel valleys on a horse-drawn sleigh ride.
The region is therefore a unique refuge for those who want to recover actively from everyday stress. On the following pages you can read and inform yourself about the entire range of winter activities on Lake Achensee!
Summer Holiday
Tyrol's Sports & Vital Park is not only a paradise for families, hikers and runners; water rats as well as nature lovers, adventurers and those who are looking for peace and quiet will get their money's worth.
It is the spectacular natural world that makes the region around Lake Achensee so special. As the largest lake in Tyrol, Achensee is also a refuge for many sailors, surfers and kitesurfers. In the summer, you will meet sun worshippers who are hungry for sunbathing and who not only enjoy the breathtaking view but also the clear water of the Achensee in the lidoes of the region.
The lake is surrounded by two mountain ranges: On one side, the Karwendel Mountains with its rugged rocky peaks rise and on the other side, chamois and golden eagles greet from the peaks of Rofan. This gem captivates with gentle alpine meadows as well as steeply sloping rock faces. This makes the Achensee a perfect starting point for hiking, mountain bike tours or climbing adventures.
