5 Ski Resorts Easily Accessible by Train

Updated on 22.01.2024 in Recommendations

No traffic jams, no stress, no black ice – just lean back and enjoy the scenery; then go directly from the train station to the ski slope. Travelling by train is the best and easiest way to reach many Tirolean tourism destinations. Today we would like to show you five ski resorts you can easily reach by train.

1. Ski Arlberg

The first funicular in ”the cradle of alpine skiing” was put into service in the 1930s. Today, the ski resort is one of the most well-known ones in the Alps. A unique winter paradise with a comprehensive network of slopes and modern lifts spreads out around the Arlberg – and don’t forget the legendary night life in this area. You can easily and comfortably reach St. Anton by train when travelling from Austria or its neighbouring countries.

2. KitzSki

Kithbühel is famous for its legendary Hahnenkamm World Cup Races and its world’s most notorious downhill racecourse for men. Enjoy guaranteed snow, amazing slopes and numerous cosy ski huts at one of the most popular ski resorts in Austria. Kitzbühel is also well known for its upper-class lifestyle and easy accessibility. Dash there with one of the fast ICE trains or Railjets.

3. SkiStar St. Johann in Tirol

On the “other” side of the Kitzbühler Horn, you will find the family-friendly and diverse ski resort St. Johann in Tirol. The highest point is the Harschbichl at 1,600 metres above sea level, accessible by lift from three sides. There are various free training lifts for beginners and children, allowing easy first steps into this ski sport. The express trains also stop in St. Johann.

4. SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental

Nine different places connected by mountain lifts and kilometre-long slopes. “Never stop exploring” could be the slogan of the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental ski resort. The resort is so large, even skiers who have been here several times will continue to find new areas to explore. At the same time the resort is ideal for children and beginners. Just like most of the ski resorts in this region, the SkiWelt is also easily accessible by Railjet & Co. trains.

5. Mayrhofen ski resort

Famous for its insanely steep Harakiri piste and loved for its large snowpark, the Mayrhofen ski resort is a state-of-the-art winter sport destination. Yet, it also offers plenty of gentle runs for beginners, families and those who are looking for a relaxing day. You will find everything you need for a perfect day out on the slopes. Take the fast train to Jenbach and then hop on the “Zillertalbahn”, which will take you directly to the funicular.
