The best Breakfast Spots in Tirol

Updated on 17.05.2018 in Food & Drink

Landei 1

According to my Mum, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. In my early years, I didn’t always agree. Today, however, I love breakfast all the more.

So if it’s given that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, why not have it be the most delicious? These places around Innsbruck are the best spots to start your morning with a kick of flavour. Plus, there are great places to have breakfast all across the country.

I have asked my friends and colleagues for their favourite breakfast spots in Tirol. So if you want the best edible start to your best day ever, here are the places you need to hit in Tirol. (Additional ones will be regularly added, so check back for more to come.)

Gut Matzen in Reith im Alpbachtal – www.gutmatzen.at

Matzen Frühstück

Ambiance:
Towered by the fairytale Matzen Castle, this amazing place embraces the original historic architecture of the space with vaulted ceilings, a tiled stove that dates back to around 1700 and Neo-Gothic style wood paneling. Upon walking through the doors, you will instantly feel like you have time travelled back into a past world—and you will feel spoiled like the Lords and Ladies who once occupied the property. On sunny days, guests can enjoy al fresco dining at their outdoor patio, with wonderful views of the restored 12th century Matzen Castle that sits majestically amid sprawling acres of manicured gardens and grounds.

Breakfast Menu:
From the “Süss & Klein” breakfast for sweet and small cravings (€ 7.50 per person) to “Groß & Fein” with all extras and add-ups you can imagine, such as Italian dry-cured ham, hay-milk cheese, salmon and wood-oven-baked bread (€ 14.50 per person).

Exciting Breakfast Items:
Tasty fresh juice of tomatoes, celery, cucumber and lemon is € 6.50 and makes a great pick me up breakfast juice.

Must-Try:
Their “Groß & Fein” breakfast of fresh and locally sourced specialties is delicious – it looks great and tastes even better!

Breakfast Hours:
Wednesdays to Sundays 09:00am to 11:00am

Zauberei in Ellmau – www.zauberei.at

Zauberei 1

Ambiance:
Beautifully designed in a mixture of different materials, Zauberei translates to ‘Magic’ and dares to be different. Young and stylish, the industrially-inspired interior features an intimate and cosy atmosphere. Breakfast is the signature meal at Zauberei and is your best bet. The menu offers everything you could possibly desire—and more. Of course, you can as well opt for a simple croissant and a cup of coffee. But who would want that if you can have homemade killer cakes? Zauberei owner Anja is a very warm and inviting person, who will make you feel truly at home.

Breakfast Menu:
From the “Kleine Zauberei” (‘Small Magic’) breakfast for small cravings (€ 8.00 per person) to “Tristan & Isolde” for Two, including juice and prosecco at € 28.00, there’s something for big appetites and everything in between. Of course, you can create your very own breakfast here, too.

Breakfast Specials
e. g. “Fischer’s Fritz” (‘Fishing Fred’) is € 13.50 per person – for those who like fish for breakfast.

Exciting Breakfast Items:
“Paleo”, a breakfast offering without any bread.

Must-Try:
“Figurzauber” (‘Body Shape Magic’) at € 12.50 per person. What’s it all about? And how will it shape up your body? Give it a try and find out for yourself!

You can either have your own choice from the buffet or order your option from your table. This breakfast spot offers an eclectic menu of everything from ham, cheese, butter, jams, marmalades, and muesli to more non-traditional morning fare like hummus spread. Morgenbrot in Hall – www.morgenbrot.at

Morgenbrot, © Morgenrot ©

Ambiance:
The eclectic interior is filled with mismatched tables and seats and the atmosphere is friendly and colourful with a living room vibe. This is a lovely place to watch the world go by. The owners source local ingredients for their comfort-food-with-a-twist, such as milk and eggs from a neighbouring farm and freshly baked breads from Bäckerei Wachtler. Delectable dishes include homemade cakes, Belgian waffles, fresh fruit, arugula, dry-cured ham, the whole nine yards… Grab a steaming cup of freshly brewed Coffee Kult coffee, arguably the best coffee in town. Want to know what the name means? “Morgenbrot”, literally ‘morning bread’, was the German name for breakfast until the 15th century.

Breakfast Menu:
“Rucki Zucki” for small cravings (€ 3.80 per person); “Tischlein deck dich” (‘The Wishing-Table’) for big appetites (€ 17.90 per person)

Nani Kaffee & Konzept in Söll – www.kaffeenani.com

Ambiance:
Attention to detail? You bet. It’s casual, hip and homey, with a great patio room for enjoyable brunching. The tiny Concept Store next door sells interesting pieces to fill your dwellings, from tableware and serving ware to home accessories, unique gifts and jewellery. Combining a café with retail in the one space is a new and very exciting concept. It provides customers with that true lifestyle experience of being able to both shop and relax with friends over a coffee. The great-grandparents of today’s owner Simone operated a coffeehouse in those very rooms more than 50 years ago. The name “Nani” is homage to Simone’s grandma, who was upbeat, positive and relaxed—and who always had time for others. Sounds like a nice concept for a breakfast spot to me.

Breakfast Menu:
“Strizi” for small cravings (€ 6.20 per person); “Springingal” for big appetites (€ 12.90 per person)

Special for Two:
„Di & Mi“ (“You & Me”) with prosecco is € 29.60 for two

Breakfast Specials:
e. g. “Gstiaschte” with butter, jam, honey, sliced meats, egg and cheese is € 11.80 per person.

Exciting Breakfast Items:
Drinks with a difference, such as rose lemonade or mango lemonade (€ 3.00)

Must-Try:
“Chemex” is a very special pour-over style coffee – devotees claim Chemex coffee to be the best of the world. Enjoy finest African Arabica beans prepared pour over brewing and served in a sleek hourglass shaped glass vessel with a stunning wood collar.

Breakfast Hours:
Thursdays to Mondays 8:30am to 6:00pm; Tuesdays 8:30am to 2:00pm. Closed on Wednesdays.

Reservations:
Please call +43.660.3017239

Why? Because I have to try that granny-style slow drip pour over coffee.

Café Genuss in Alpbach – www.cafe-genuss.at

A warm and inviting place in shabby chic style with adjoining Concept Store where you can shop for the lovely decorations afterwards. It’s something people are really enjoying, it’s like going on a holiday, they say. Owners Manuela and Andreas are very attentive and want you to walk away happy. They love the food they serve, such as Italian bruschetta and tramezzini sandwiches, garden fresh vegetables with sweet chili, radish breads, quiches, various spreads, homemade cakes and killer pastries to name but a few. Not your ordinary breakfast buffet.
