Almabtrieb - Coming Home from the Mountain Pastures

The cow bells can be heard from afar, ringing in the alpine pastures in the Karwendel silver region. Traditions and customs are treasures that must be carefully guarded and preserved for future generations.

Description

Those who recognize the deeper meaning and the real value of the traditional cultural heritage will feel the fire for which the "retronovative" silver region Karwendel burns.
Depending on the ranking of the cow in the herd, its bell has a special sound. Almabtriebe are thanksgiving celebrations for the alpine dairymen returning home safe and sound with their animals. Only when all the animals of an alp come back completely and healthy from summer, they will be decorated for their return to the valley.

Over mountain and yoke the cows move with the shepherds to their homeland in the valley
Traditional traditions help to ensure that the Almabtriebe in the Karwendel Silver Region are as harmonious as they used to be.
Besides the beautiful straps and bells, the animals are "wreathed" with mountain pines, spruces, grana bits and Alpine flowers, colourful ribbons and mirrors for their return home and return to their home stable under the joyful eyes of many onlookers.

This beautification on the mountain pasture can take several hours. People and animals are eagerly awaited in the valley and welcomed with music and rural delicacies.
The Almabtrieb is led by the leading cows, who already know the way home by themselves - and of course are also most beautifully decorated.

On this feast day, women also wear their most beautiful dirndls and men's costumes. The delicious peasant dishes are enjoyed, music is played and danced.
