Arrival by public transport
City bus line 2 or Regiobus line 4030 to stop "Ebbs Kaiseraufstieg".
We like it warm in winter too. So the 285 steps right at the start come in very handy. If you are not put off by the steep start, you will be rewarded with the breathtaking panorama of the Kaiser Mountains and numerous refreshment stops.
This sporty tour begins with an ascent via the "Kaisertal staircase". At the top, a perfectly groomed valley path leads past picturesque farms via the Pfandl Chapel to a fork in the path. Keep left here and you will reach the Antonius Chapel. A wonderful place to take a breather and let your gaze wander to the Gamsberg and into the Kaisertal valley to the Totenkirchl. On the way back (same route), choose one of the numerous refreshment stops - the BergKhof also offers vegan dishes. If you are in the mood for more, hike on to the Ritzau Alm or the Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte.
The Kaisertal not only boasts a stunning backdrop but also enjoys a favorable climate, sheltered from winds, making it a popular destination even in winter. After ascending the 285 steps of the Kaiseraufstieg into the valley, the path leads above the Zottenhof, past the Veitenhof, and over the Pfandl Chapel, the Pfandlhof, and the BergKhof to a fork in the road. Here, take the left path to reach the Antonius Chapel. From this point, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Gamsberg opposite or further into the Kaisertal towards the Totenkirchl. The return route follows the same path, offering numerous opportunities to stop at traditional inns along the way. The path runs along the southern slope of the Zahmer Kaiser, basking in the warming winter sun.
Variant: If you want to go further up, you can follow the forest road from Hinterkaiserhof to the Ritzau Alm or Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte and return to the valley on the same route. Additional time there and back from Hinterkaiserhof 3 h 45 min.
