LP2 – Straubing Circuit

With a distance of almost 14 km the “Straubing-Circuit” is only for experienced runners with a conditioned heart. A total of 450 metres of altitude is to be mastered. The route leads mostly along solitary forest and gravel roads with fantastic views and wonders of nature. This circuit acquired its name from the similarly named cheese hut which is located approximately half-way along the route. The tour begins and ends at the Westendorf Golf Course’s Clubhouse

Description

Beginning at the runners starting point, the Westendorf Golf Course’s club house, towards the main road, turn to the right and then to the left (before the little chapel) towards “Haus Innsbruck/Jugendheim”.  The signposts “Rundwanderweg/Fußballplatz) lead directly to the carpark at the “Waldstadion” (the football stadium).                     
Pass along the side of the pitch and, behind the woodland playground, take the right track, remaining beside the golf course on the right-hand side. At the end of the track, turn to the left onto the asphalt road, in the direction of “Lend/Lendwirt”. The road descends as far as the Guesthouse Lendwirt. Here turn to the left, cross over the next bridge and keeping to the left run in the direction of the “Sägewerk” (wood yard).
From here on the route runs alongside the “Windauer Ache” stream on a gravel road for quite some time until we reach the Guesthouse Jägerhäusl in the Windau valley.  Taking a sharp turn to the right, a steep track leads uphill. Follow the signpost for “Käsealm Straubing” and run further along this forest track, passing by the cheese hut. Follow the signposts which lead straight ahead until the end of the track which arrives back on the road between the Lendwirt bridge and the wood yard.
Turning to the left, the route returns the same way, passing the Guesthouse Lendwirt and uphill along the asphalt road once again. At the point where we originally left the asphalt road soon after our departure, we run straight ahead here, turning right at the small timber yard, in the direction of Westendorf/”Waldhofkapelle” (the little chapel). At the end of the road, at the little chapel, we find ourselves once again on the main road within sight of the clubhouse. We’re not far now from our destination!
