Description

You start at the tourist information in Ellmau and leave the village on the Kapellenweg. At the turnoff to the Kapellenpark, continue walking straight ahead and across the ski meadow in the direction of Going, where you still walk briefly through the settlement area. Immediately after the valley station of the Astberg cable car, turn right and follow trail no. 8a and the Lanzenweg towards Going. On this you get directly to the church square and continue on the Söllnerweg, where trail no. 7 branches off to the right towards Astberg. At first it's a leisurely incline across the meadow, gradually the path becomes a bit steeper and it goes up alternately on a root path and a forest road through the forest. We leave the Hollenauer Kreuz snack station on the right and continue up the forest road - until we finally reach the Astbergsee lake "from behind" via a forest trail, where we are rewarded with a fantastic view of the Wilder Kaiser. This is also the highest point of the loop, from now on it's all downhill: over the toboggan run, through the Ellmau district of Vetterstätt to the Marienkapelle chapel and through the Kapellenpark back to the village to the tourist information.
