Tobogganing

Tobogganing and sledging - tips on braking and steering

Tobogganing is easy if you know the right technique. And Christine was shown this by hut landlord Andreas. Andreas and his family have been running the toboggan run at the Rauthhütte in Leutasch for decades. The hut is also a popular destination for a short ski tour including a stop for refreshments.

The right toboggan

It is important that the toboggan has a strap. This allows you to hold it firmly during the ride so that it does not continue on its own in the event of a fall. The runners should also be pulled up over the edge at the back so that you can brake well.

Correct braking

On flat terrain, simply press both feet into the snow next to the runners to brake. If it is steep, you should sit right at the back and pull the toboggan upwards at the front with your feet in addition to braking normally. This way you brake at the back with the runners.

Steer correctly

To steer, simply press your foot into the snow. The harder you press, the tighter the turn.
