Entertaining family toboggan run with delicious refreshments and easy ascent.
In the deep, snow-covered winter months, tobogganing enthusiasts can reach the picturesque Hämmermoosalm via cleared hiking trails directly from the final parking lot P5 Salzbach in the Gaistal. The beginner- and family-friendly ascent takes about 30 minutes through wild and romantic forest areas to the rustic mountain hut at an altitude of 1,417 meters. Here, you may occasionally encounter harpist Albert, who beautifully complements the regional delicacies and steaming hot drinks with his music in the wooden alpine hut.
For sporty sledders, an alternative is the slightly steeper Ganghoferweg through the forest, which leads to the Hämmermoosalm in about 20 minutes.
The two-kilometer descent is freshly groomed after new snowfall, ensuring optimal conditions for tobogganers of all ages. Alternatively, you can also enjoy the ascent via a horse-drawn carriage ride.
Key facts about the tobogganing track:
• Length: approx. 2 kilometers
• Elevation gain: 196 m
• Lift assistance: none
• Lighting: none
Recommended equipment:
For this track, a sports toboggan and helmet are required. Multiple layers of clothing, warm gloves, a hat, and waterproof jackets and pants provide protection and comfort. Sturdy boots with good traction (for braking) are essential, while poles and crampons (spikes) can provide extra support during the ascent.
Additionally, sleds and toboggans can be rented at various rental points throughout the Region Seefeld.
Track conditions:
The tobogganing track is not groomed or checked daily, so usage is at your own risk. We strongly recommend checking the current conditions directly with the Hämmermoosalm (+43 5214 20244) before heading out. The ascent is the best opportunity to assess the track—if in doubt, it’s better to turn back. Please note that the ascent and descent share the same trail, which is also used for winter hiking, so be prepared for possible traffic in both directions.
All up-to-date information on the status of tobogganing tracks, winter hiking trails, and ice facilities can be found in our Region Seefeld winter sports report.
