Almost all of our toboggan runs presented here bear the natural toboggan run seal of approval from the state of Tyrol. So they are all "good". But some are also particularly "beautiful". By this we mean first and foremost the landscape, the view and perhaps also a rustic mountain hut that invites you to stop for a bite to eat. In our selection you will find a wide variety of toboggan runs, some of which are in ski areas with a lift, such as the Spieljoch in Zillertal, the Gaislachkogel in Sölden or the toboggan run on the Kellerjoch near Schwaz. However, the main focus in this case is on those toboggan runs where you can combine tobogganing with a beautiful winter hike and walk up to the starting point. You will find plenty of peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle at the Brandstattalm in the Stubai Valley or at the Nonsalm in the Tuxer Vorlapen. The Kogelhütte toboggan run with the Alpengasthaus Praxmar, the Bichlalm in Hintertux or the Kemater Alm at the foot of the Kalkkögel offer great mountain nature paired with rustic refreshment stops.
Toboggans can often be hired at the valley or mountain stations of cable cars if the toboggan run is located in a ski area. Many huts and mountain pastures also offer toboggans for hire for a small fee. Otherwise, sports shops in the valley are also good places to hire equipment. In any case, you should check beforehand whether and where you can hire a toboggan, as nothing would be more annoying than standing at the start of the toboggan run without a toboggan.
If there is no ascent assistance in the form of a lift or taxi, then you will have to get to the starting point on foot, for better or worse. However, this is not necessarily a disadvantage, as you can enjoy a beautiful winter hike, do something for your fitness and - if the ascent route runs alongside the toboggan run - memorise the technically difficult bends.
In any case, you should take a small snack and warm tea with you in a hiking rucksack. Also a change of clothes, as you will quickly work up a sweat on the way up. If the ascent path does not lead uphill separately from the toboggan run, it is essential to watch out for descending tobogganists and ski tourers. In the dark, it is advisable to switch on your headlamp on the ascent so that you can be seen better.
