Top of the refreshment list: A dip in one of the crystal-clear lakes in Tyrol. When it's hot, the Achensee at 929 metres above sea level is particularly suitable for this. In addition to the high refreshment factor and the impressive mountain backdrop, the largest lake in the country offers turquoise blue water, beautiful beaches and excursion boats for holidaymakers.
Even when the air is shimmering in the valley, winter sports enthusiasts in Tyrol can make their turns. The Hintertux Glacier is Austria's only ski resort that offers perfectly groomed slopes 365 days a year. In addition, the natural ice palace with a constant temperature of zero degrees Celsius provides cooling. An accessible crevasse, an icy lake and frozen waterfalls await you in the underground natural wonder.
In the metropolises of hot countries, you often see restaurant terraces that are cooled with a water sprayer. In Tyrol, we do this in a natural way, namely with spray mist directly from the waterfall. This is particularly pleasant on the loungers at the Grawa waterfall in the Stubai Valley.
The many castles, palaces and churches in Tyrol offer welcome refreshment for body and soul. The thick walls store the cool air and are pleasant places to relax on hot days. If you want to brush up on your historical knowledge, you can take a guided tour of Innsbruck's Hofkirche.
It is a constant zero degrees Celsius in the only publicly accessible ice and stalactite cave in western Austria. Above Mariastein, well-secured steps lead deep into the mountain. The stalactite formations provide a fascinating insight into the formation of our earth and offer an exciting way to cool off.
A shady canopy of leaves, a cool drink and a relaxed atmosphere. There are many cosy beer gardens in the provincial capital of Innsbruck where you can enjoy the hottest hours of the day. Classics include the Fischerhäusl near the Landestheater, the Stiftskeller not far from the Golden Roof or the iconic Bierstindl at the foot of the Bergisel.
From time to time, the word "Schluchtenschei%#r" ("gorge shi%#r") flies around our ears with little charm. Whether the country's impressive gorges are actually suitable for various businesses is not up for debate here. What is guaranteed, however, is that they provide wonderful cooling on hot days. The Wolfsklamm gorge near Stans offers a particularly magnificent natural spectacle with its emerald green, ice-cold water.
Surfing in the middle of Tyrol? Of course you can, with upstream surfing on the ice-cold Inn. The Ötztaler Ache also carries a lot of glacier water and offers a paradise for water sports enthusiasts in Area 47. Windsurfers will be happy at Lake Achensee and those who want to cool off with tube riding should take a trip to the Brandenberger Ache. Refreshment guaranteed!
It is a constant 12 degrees in the tunnels of the silver mine in Schwaz. The "mother of all mines" was once the largest silver mine of the Middle Ages. The ride on the mine railway deep inside the mountain is a refreshing highlight in itself. The tour is also a welcome respite for allergy sufferers, as the mine is an absolutely pollen-free zone.
The air gets around 1 degree cooler for every 100 metres of altitude. The Tyrolean mountains are the perfect place for people who want to escape the heat in the valley. The quickest way to gain metres in altitude is to take the mountain railway. Whether it's on a leisurely hike or in one of the many mountain adventure worlds, the cool mountain air is guaranteed to refresh you.
