Description

With an area of almost 3 km², Plansee is the second largest lake in Tyrol and is picturesquely nestled in the mountains of the Reutte Nature Park region. The lake, which is up to 78 meters deep, delights with its crystal-clear water, which reaches temperatures between 19 and 22 degrees in summer. Here you can swim, canoe, dive or fish to your heart's content and enjoy the natural surroundings to the full. The quality of the water (quality class I) ensures unadulterated water fun, be it swimming, sailing or surfing.

Boat trip

A special attraction is the Plansee and Heiterwanger See boat trip, which runs regularly between the two lakes from the end of May to mid-October. The two passenger ships MS Margarethe and MS Wilhelm call at three different stops: Fischer am See, Seespitze and Forelle. A round trip across the lakes offers unique views of the surrounding mountains. Bicycles can also be taken on board, depending on availability.

Diving

The Plansee also offers optimal conditions for divers. The clear visibility and fascinating underwater landscape with impressive rock formations and a variety of fish make diving here an unforgettable experience. Divers can spend the night directly on the lake at the Planseecamp. The Planseecamp offers accommodation in four huts and a tree house, ideal for clubs as well as larger and smaller groups. On site there is expert advice, bottle filling, drying facilities for equipment and the opportunity to sit together comfortably or go on boat trips. Terraces with garden furniture, various barbecues and a sauna are available for communal use.

Fishing

The Plansee is fishing area 7028 and offers ideal conditions for anglers. Here you will find a wide variety of fish species such as grayling, brown trout, rainbow trout, arctic char, minnows, whitefish, perch and various white fish. The fishing season lasts from March 16 to October 31, and fishing from a boat is permitted, but night fishing is not allowed. A maximum of 20 day permits are issued per day, including 16 day permits, 1 weekly permit and 3 fly fishing permits (two normal and one with a guest fishing permit). If you are not in possession of a Tyrolean fishing license, you will need a guest fishing license. Catch registration is mandatory. Day tickets can be purchased conveniently online at www.hejfish.com/d/13363.

Leisure activities for families

For families, there are comfortable sunbathing lawns along the lake and a children's playground with swings and slides at the Sennalpe. A special highlight is the show dairy in the Musteralpe, where visitors can watch the traditional craft of cheese-making through a glass window. As part of the Active Card program, dairyman Horst Meusburger gives insights into the art of cheese-making every Thursday in summer, and the cheese can be tasted and purchased on site.

Hiking and cycling

Hikers also get their money's worth around the Plansee. A family-friendly circular hiking trail leads to the idyllic Stuiben Falls, while an easy walking trail leads to Lake Heiterwanger See. There are several tours for cyclists, including a popular mountain bike route that leads from Plansee via Griesen to Garmisch and back again via Ehrwald and Reutte. Another route runs via Neuwald-Kuhklause to the Urisee lake and offers magnificent views of the mountains along the way.
