At 2,962 meters, the Zugspitze is not only Germany's highest mountain, it is also home to a particularly spectacular ski area. It is located on the Zuspitzplatt a few hundred meters below the summit. The sloping plateau is located on the Schneeferner, Germany's largest glacier. Although the slopes are on the German side, they are also accessible from Austria via the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn. It connects Ehrwald with the summit in just ten minutes. From there, the glacier cable car takes you down into the snow fun.
The high alpine location at up to 2,720 meters and the cooling effect of the glacier make the ski area very snow-sure, sometimes for almost seven months. A small selection of blue and red pistes on the sunny south side of the massif make the hearts of winter sports enthusiasts beat faster. In addition, beautiful deep snow slopes lure powder-loving freeriders away from the groomed pistes. The crowning glory is the magnificent view from the summit - which sometimes extends as far as Munich or the Bernina group in Switzerland.
Refreshment stops include the summit restaurant with its famous panoramic views and, for those who can't get enough of the snow, the igloo village in the middle of the ski area. You can even spend the night there in small igloo suites. And if you want to experience something different between the ski runs, you should visit the "Fascination Zugspitze" adventure world on the summit.
