Description

Four mountains, two federal states, one ski area: the Zillertal Arena is the largest winter sports area in the Zillertal and extends into Salzburg's Pinzgau region. On the Tyrolean side, access is possible from Zell am Ziller, Gerlos and Wald-Königsleiten. There is also a cable car from Hainzenberg to the small family ski area of Gerlosstein. Here, a 200-metre-long snow tubing run provides plenty of action in the snow. Use is free of charge.

The valley descent to Zell bears the name "Höhenfresser-Tour" for good reason. From the highest point of the ski area, the Übergangsjoch at 2,500 meters above sea level, it takes fit skiers ten kilometers and 1,930 meters down into the valley. This makes it one of the slopes with the greatest difference in altitude in the whole of Austria. Those who like things more acrobatic are best off in one of the snow, action and fun parks. Some of them are also suitable for beginners and children.

Above Zell, there is also a spacious beginners' and children's area with practice lifts. There is a high density of restaurants, snow bars and rustic huts throughout the arena. A visit to the Gipfeltreffen mountain restaurant at the Königsleiten mountain station is particularly worthwhile due to its magnificent views of the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Zillertal Alps. For skiers with good stamina, we recommend the Arena Tour, which takes you through all four sub-ski areas in one day.
