Description

It is a truly majestic panorama that welcomes skiers to the Großglockner resort of Kals-Matrei. Many pistes offer breathtaking views of up to 60 three-thousand-metre peaks, above all the king of the Hohe Tauern, the Großglockner, Austria's highest mountain at 3,798 meters. The manageable but very varied piste area is accessible from Matrei as well as from Kals. It reaches up to an altitude of 2,426 meters and is the largest ski area in East Tyrol.

The resort is known for being very family-friendly. There are several practice lifts in Kals and some blue pistes on the slopes above Matrei. There are also children's ski schools and a spacious area for the little ones with a warming room and magic carpet at the top station of the Goldried I gondola lift. If you already have experience on skis, you should try the black downhill run from the Blauspitze or the varied slopes at the Cimaross lift. Incidentally, a real gourmet highlight awaits at the top station: the Adler Lounge. Not only does it offer magnificent views of the mountains, it is also Austria's highest toque-awarded restaurant.

Thanks to its location, the ski area is blessed with a very high natural snow guarantee. Even if there is no precipitation, there are provisions in place, as most of the pistes can be artificially snowed.
