I really want to discover something new during my visit, so I asked Kitzbühel expert Christine Edenstrasser to accompany me for a day and tell me more about her favourite Tyrolean town. Christine lives just outside the town and works as a coach and mental trainer. She is closely connected to many people in Kitzbühel and appreciates the numerous leisure activities on the mountain and in the town.
Up to the iconic Hahnenkamm and see everything from above. Here you will find a few of Christine's favourite restaurants.
At the Hochkitzbühel restaurant at the top station of the Hahnenkamm cable car, we almost have to issue a warning. It is very likely that you will forget to go back to the piste: The food here is too good, the atmosphere is casual and the service provided by the Tomschy family is very personal. When the weather is good, you can not only see the Großglockner from the terrace, there are also all kinds of other superlatives on offer. Thanks to Christoph Tomschy, top international DJs from Miami and Ibiza entertain the party animals well into the night on Fridays and Saturdays.
The Hahnenkamm Stüberl is also a really cosy place to stop off near the Hahnenkamm mountain station. It is a cosy inn where many locals stop off. If you have a clear view of the regulars' table, you might even catch a glimpse of Hansi Hinterseer here.
The ski resort in Kitzbühel has been voted the best ski resort in the world three times in a row by the Skiresort.de platform. On our day of skiing together, Christine and I not only enjoyed the perfect piste conditions and good snow conditions, but of course also the much-needed vitamin D from the sun's rays.
From the Pengelstein we take the 3-S cable car. Nowhere else can you float higher above the ground. And not just in Tyrol, but in the whole of Europe.
Between the many carving turns over the Hahnenkamm, Pengelstein, Jochberg and Aurach, a proper rest break is of course a must.
Even from the outside, the Berggasthof Sonnbühel is the undisputed most rustic "hut" in the Kitzbühel ski area and then really comes up trumps once again on the inside: with top gastronomy on the mountain and a very elegant ambience. A reservation is required here.
After skiing, head to the medieval old town of Kitzbühel. The alleyways are lined with top international shops, small boutiques, down-to-earth and exclusive restaurants. That's what makes this town so special.
Christine discovered her Dale boots last winter and revealed this insider tip to us: Robert Graham, a former professional mogul skier from the USA, has set up his headquarters in Kitzbühel and sells the customised and handmade Dale boots in his small shop. You have to visit the shop twice for a fitting to get the best results. It is not just the shape of the foot that is important here, even the alignment of the knee is measured precisely so that the optimum inner and outer shell of the new ski boot can be made. Dale boots are not cheap, but they are an investment for a very, very long time.
Cool ski fashion is available in one of the Toni Sailer shops: The premium sports suits are particularly chic and are reminiscent of the great sports legend from Kitzbühel.
Ladies always make a good impression in a smart dirndl. Christine naturally recommends one from the Kitzbühel-based company Sportalm.
A special accommodation tip from Christine is the Hotel Villa Licht. Not a temple of luxury, but a place to feel at home, with lots of character and, most importantly, dedicated, spirited owners. You couldn't be more central and yet very quiet. And the excellent reviews on the platforms confirm Christine's recommendation.
The fact that the Hotel Kitzhof lives up to the name "Mountain Design Resort" can be seen from the entrance. The best designers have created an "eye-catching" and "feel-good" atmosphere here. It almost goes without saying that the food here is first-class.
