Description

Mountain idyll with a romantic lake and waterfall
German Alpine Club, Hof Division

At the Winnebachhütte you can get a taste of not only mountain air but sea air too, because it is located next to the Winnebachsee lake above Gries in the Sulztal Valley. An imposing waterfall is yet another feast for the eyes. When the Frankfurt an der Oder Division of the German Alpine Club saw "this beautiful part of the world in high alpine wilderness", it decided to establish a base for hikers and climbers here. An excellent idea, as one really is in mountain paradise here. The hut is well equipped and managed, and the food is great. There are a few additional amenities: a small cable car which cn be used for luggage transport from Winnebachhof is available, and there is also a popular via ferrata fixed-rope climbing route nearby.
