The Willi-Merkl-Gedächtnis-Hütte (1,550 metres) is a self-catering hut in the Allgäu Alps – next to two further huts serving food and drink.
Self-catering hut in the Tannheim Mountains
German Alpine Club, Friedberg Division
Important! The hut will be closed in 2020.
The Willi-Merkl-Gedächtnis-Hütte, together with the Füssener Hütte and the Otto-Mayr-Hütte, forms a trinity of huts in the Tannheimer Tal Valley. The Willi-Merkl-Gedächtnis-Hütte is the only of the three which is self-catering. Inside, visitors will find everything they need. The hut is surrounded by mountains, many of which are challenging to climb. The Willi-Merkl-Gedächtnis-Hütte combines the contrasts of the Tannheim Mountains and is named after Willy Merkl, a member of the German Alpine Club's Friedberg Division who died during an expedition to the Himalayas in 1934.
