Hut? No, a majestic mountain lodge with comfortable overnight accommodation awaits visitors at the Solsteinhaus high in the Karwendel Mountains. When the Innsbruck Division of the Austrian Alpine Club went looking for a location for a mountain refuge in the Karwendel Mountains in 1908, they found the ideal spot at 1,804 metres above sea level on the western side of the Solstein mountain, between the Nordkette and Erlspitz mountain ranges. The Solsteinhaus opened in 1914 and was completely renovated and generously equipped in 2007. The modern conference and function room offers the opportunity to hold courses or space for families and groups to get together on bad-weather days. The outdoor climbing wall is also very popular with up-coming young climbers.

From Kranebitten in 4 hours, from Hochzirl (Mittenwaldbahn railway) in 2.5 hours, from Seefeld in 6 hours, from Gießenbach (Mittenwaldbahn railway) through the Eppzirler Tal Valley in 5 hours, from Scharnitz through the Hinterautal, Gleirschtal and Großkristental Valleys in 5 hours

The Solsteinhaus is locted on the Karwendel High Trail (Stage 2/3) and marks the end of Stage 14 and the starting point of Stage 15 of the Eagle Walk, a long-distance hiking trail crossing Tirol in 33 stages.
