The Schweinfurter Hütte in the romantic Horlachtal Valley is located in the Stubai Alps, but on the Ötztal Valley side. Originally a private hunting lodge, it was acquired by the Guben Division of the German Alpine Club in 1918 and converted into a mountain refuge. The hut is now admirably managed by the Schweinfurt Division. It has been expertly renovated and excellently equipped, as well as being a provider of great food. As one would expect, everything is in order from an ecological point of view, a fact proven by the Environmental Seal of Approval award bestowed upon it by the German Alpine Club. It is a popular place to stop during hikes, mountain bike and ski tours. It is also on the "Sellrainer Hufeisen Tour" (Sellrainer Horseshoe Tour). A toboggan run leads from Niederthai down to the hut in winter.

From the village of Niederthai (bus stop) through the Horlachtal Valley in 2 hours; from Umhausen in 4 hours, from St. Sigmund im Sellrain in 6 hours, from Gries im Ötztal in 7 hours, from Kühtai / Dortmunder Hütte in 5 hours
