Description

Stately mountain refuge in the midst of a majestic mountain panorama
German Alpine Club, Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz Division

The Olpererhütte in Zamser Grund above the Schlegeis reservoir shares its name with its rocky "patron saint", the Olperer mountain. This is the main peak of the Tux Ridge, whose distinctive appearance is dominated by a pyramid-shaped peak. The Olpererhütte has always been a magnet for ambitious climbers in search of accommodation in the mountains. The hut was built in 1881 by the former Prague Division of the German-Austrian Alpine Club. Due to popular interest it soon proved to be too small and was renovated many times. It was completely demolished and built anew in 2006, as the foundations were no longer stable. The Olpererhütte is on the Berlin High Trail, the Peter Habeler Route and the Munich-Venice Dream Trail.
