Description

Family-friendly daytrip destination at the Martinsbergalm
German Alpine Club, Geltendorf Division

The beautiful Martinsbergalm meadows high above Zirl, where the Neue Magdeburger Hütte now stands, were once used for hay making in summer. Later on, a hunting lodge was built here and given the name "Solstein Hütte" because of its location beneath the Großer und Kleiner Solstein mountains. It was then acquired by the Magdeburg and Geltendorf Divisions of the German Alpine Club. A good decision, because now both the alpine pastures and mountain enthusiasts benefit from a particularly inviting mountain refuge and guest house with original character and great food. The atmosphere is gregarious, not only during the celebrations and live music sessions, but also when the visitors frequently break into song. There is a small children’s playground in front of the hut and a rock climbing area in varying levels of difficulty nearby. Well-known surrounding mountains: Großer and Kleiner Solstein, Hechenberg, Kirchbergköpfl.

From Zirl along the Hüttenweg trail (3.5 hours, easy); from Hochzirl railway station along the Hüttenweg trail (2.5 hours, easy); from Kranebitten near Innsbruck via the Schleifwandsteig trail (4 hours, intermediate).
