Description

Emergency shelter on Carnic High Trail
Austrian Alpine Club, Alpenverein Austria (Wien) Division

Anyone caught in a thunderstorm on a mountain tour on the Carnic High Trail near Untertilliach need not despair: this emergency shelter between the Steinkarspitz and Hochspitz offers cover, a mattress camp with six beds for emergencies and, on top of that, a great view. The wooden hut, built in 1980, is otherwise purely self-catering; there is no water, electricity or cooking facilities, only mobile phone reception is good. The hut is not suitable for children, and because of the steep terrain, alpine experience is an advantage. Nevertheless, the bivouac is classified as a category I refuge, as it is also open in winter.
