Description

Mountain refuge and base for climbing the Habicht mountain
Austrian Alpine Club, Touristenclub Innsbruck Division

The predominantly shingle-clad Innsbrucker Hütte is located at a sunny vantage point on the beautiful Alfairalpe, not far from the Pinnisjoch ridge in the Stubai Alps. When it was originally built in 1884 there were only a few mattresses and sleeping quarters on a hay underlay. Due to its great popularity, however, it was soon extended. The flow of visitors increased even more after the Stubaitalbahn tram line was brought into operation in 1904. After suffering major damage during both World Wars, the hut was resorted to its original glory. The Innsbrucker Hütte is located on the Stubai High Trail and is a much-visited destination to this day. The hut is also an important address for climbers: the Ilmspitze via ferrata climbing route is nearby, plus an easy via ferrata for beginners and a rock climbing area nearby.
