German Alpine Club, Oberer Neckar Division
Perched on the Grubeggjoch ridge, which divides the Reisenschuhtal Valley from the Vorderes Alpeiltal Valley, the Heiterwandhütte is a mountain hut in the Lechtal Alps popular with walkers and hikers. It was rebuilt in 1972 after the original hut, which was established in 1912, was destroyed by an avalanche. The refuge sleeps 25 people in a dormitory-style room with matresses next to each other. There is also a dining room, a kitchen with a wood-burning oven, crockery and a basin for washing up. Water can be drawn from a number of nearby springs (see map in the hut). The hut has a number of woollen blankets, but guests should bring their own sleeping bags. The building is locked, with the key available from the German Alpine Club.
