Hall – Halltal Valley – Hallerangerhaus; all inter-linked, and not only by name. Even though the mountain refuge is located near Scharnitz, its history and visitors are more orientated towards the nearby town of Hall. The Hallerangerhaus was built in 1901 on an area of land known as Kohlerboden. After being destroyed by an avalanche in 1914, it was rebuilt 500 metres higher up in a more sheltered location. In recent years the hut has been extensively refurbished and renovated. Hot water is provided by solar energy, of which there is a plentiful supply for showers. For those who prefer natural spring water: the Isar river springs nearby. The Hallerangerhaus is an essential base for walks and hikes in the Karwendel Mountains; the Eagle Walk and Munich-Venice Dream Trail both pass the refuge. The Durchschlag rock climbing area nearby is particularly popular with climbing enthusiasts. Well-known surrounding mountains: Sunntigerspitze, Speckkarspitze, Kleiner and Großer Lafatscher, Großer Bettelwurf.

How to get to the Hallerangerhaus

From Scharnitz through the Hinterautal Valley along the "Hüttenweg" (Hut Trail)in about 5 hours; by mountain bike to Kastenalm 1.5 hours followed by another 1.5 hours on foot; from Sankt Magdalena in the Halltal Valley, via the Lafatscher Joch ridge (2.5 hours); from Vomperberg via Katzenleiter, Vomper Loch and Überschalljoch (6 hours); from top of cable car at Hafelekar (5 hours); from Herrenhäuser buildings in Halltal Valley (2 hours)
