The Coburger Hütte is perched high above the picturesque Drachensee lake, surrounded by the majestic summits of the Mieminger Mountains. Near the hut there is a hiking trail (follow the signs for "Grünsteinscharte") leading down to the lake where, according to legend, a dragon keeps watch over a sunken village. The name "Drachensee" literally translates as "Dragon's Lake".

Serving traditional Tirolean fare and sleeping up to 80 guests, the Coburger Hütte is the ideal place to stop for a meal or stay the night. The popular  Seebensee lake, reflecting the peak of the mighty Zugspitze mountain in its crystal-clear water, is just a 40-minute walk from the hut. Rock climbers will find several via ferrata fixed-rope climbing routes near the hut. Advanced and expert climbers can take on the "Tajakante-Klettersteig" (rated E, very difficult). It starts near the hut and leads up over the Vorderer Tajakopf (2,450 metres), offering fabulous views of mountains like Sonnenspitze, Drachenkopf, Marienbergspitze, Grünstein, Tajakopf and Griesspitzen.

How to get to the Coburger Hütte

Leaving from the village of Ehrwald, walk past the Seebensee to the Coburger Hütte (2.5 - 3 hours). The ascent can be shortened using the Ehrwalder Almbahn cable car. Information on mountain bike ride and hike. From Leutasch 5 hours, from Obsteig 5 hours.
