Description

Former accommodation for miners
German Alpine Club, Bochum Division

This building dating back almost 200 years was long used by copper miners as accommodation. After the mine closed in 1926, it was purchased by the German Alpine Club and turned into the Bochumer Hütte. Parts of the interior, including the wood-panelled dining room and the old wooden doors, serve as reminders of its long and rich history. Today the hut is popular with hikers and families. It hosts events with traditional live music and serves hearty food. There are rooms with individual beds as well as dormitory areas with matresses next to each other. The family rooms have warm water and bed linen. In winter there is a popular toboggan run which starts right outside the hut.
