Hintertux - Wasserfallweg Naturdenkmal Schraubenfälle
****
In the form of romantic streams and waterfalls, the meltwater from the glaciers roars for around five kilometers between Tux and Finkenberg through natural stone bridges, rock cauldrons, gorges and caves!
The hike along the Tux waterfall trail can be shorter or longer. The most common variant leads on an easy to medium level of difficulty for approx. five kilometers along good paths and trails. Starting point: Behind the valley station of the Zillertal Glacier cable car in Hintertux. There are many natural features along the way, such as the Kesselfall, Schraubenfall, a rock called Walfischmaul and the beautiful Waldeben basin. Walking time approx. 2.5 hours
Start from the bottom station of the glacier cable car in Hintertux. Half left of the valley station of the glacier cable car you can already see the lowest waterfall, the “Kesselfall”. Pass several hairpin turns (path 16 and AV trail 526) until you reach "Schraubenwasserfälle" (Waterfalls which have been declared a natural monument.). Take the narrow trail through the protection forest to the gravel path 14, "Seppelsteig", that comes up from Hintertux. Take it to the right, past "Walfischmaul", a split block of stone in the shape of a whale's mouth. Next, take the right-hand turn on the hiking trail (AV trail 526) in the direction of the "Spannagelhaus". Follow this trail until a sign points to the right for Sommerberg. Cross a narrow bridge to the beautiful valley basin “Waldeben”. Descent to the bottom station of the glacier cable car on path 16.
Deep rock basins, natural stone bridges, caves and gorges fascinate visitors.
