Wasserweg Gschnitztal
****
The path of two drops of water through the Gschnitztal begins in Steinach am Brenner. Those who accompany them will learn interesting details about water and find many opportunities for fun and relaxation.
The Gschnitztal water trail is so varied that you can cover a lot of distance on foot. However, at 18 kilometers long, it is quite challenging and requires a good level of fitness. If you forgo the detour to the Sarnthein waterfall, you can shorten it by three kilometers. Tip for families with children: There is always the option of changing to the public bus, which covers the entire valley.
From Steinach railway station you first walk to the valley station of the Bergeralm Bergbahnen (below the motorway bridge). After a short distance you will come to a bridge where you change to the other side of the valley and walk further into the Gschnitztal valley on the slightly ascending forest or hiking trail through the forest. Alternatively, you can also choose the paved road to Trins, always next to the Gschnitzbach stream. Between Trins and Gschnitz there are mostly forest tracks and driveways over meadows and through woods until you reach the entrance to Gschnitz (at the St. Magdalena parking area). There you walk in the direction of the country road, walk a few metres parallel to the country road until you can turn left again and continue over the dam next to the Gschnitzbach behind the houses. At the Gschnitzbach, the path continues until shortly before the end of the valley, where you have to walk a short distance on the little frequented country road until you reach the Gasthof Feuerstein. There is also the mill village Gschnitz, which is always worth a visit. Return journey by bus is possible.
