Description

Stage 1: Waidring - Hausberg / Schaflberg / Kirchberg - St. Ulrich am Pillersee

The first stage starts in Waidring. The historic ‘church and post village’ was an important hub for many carters and stagecoach travellers. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and even Emperor Franz Josef stopped off at the Gasthof Post in Waidring.

The trail first leads through a rustic mixed forest to the local mountain. Once at the summit, the view sweeps over the Fellhorn to the Steinplatte. Down in the valley, the red gondolas of the Steinplatte cable cars take hikers up to a primeval coral reef, which is now a marvellous hiking plateau with lively alpine farming. In the extensive Triassic Park, not only young visitors can playfully explore prehistoric times. One last look back from the Hausberg to Waidring.

From there, the trail leads through the wild and romantic Weißbachschlucht gorge to Oberweißbach, where the Alpengasthof with its magnificent view of the Steinplatte invites you to stop for a bite to eat. Past the Rechensau chapel, you hike across wide alpine pastures and mountain pine fields to the Schafelberg and Kirchberg. Again and again, you can catch marvellous panoramic views from the mountain pines in all directions and enjoy the tranquillity of the mountain world. The trail leads past the Winterstelleralm and continues down the forest path to the Lindtalalm. Here the path branches off to the left in the right-hand bend towards St. Ulrich am Pillersee. Across a mountain slope, the hiking trail joins an old forest road. Follow this to the tarmac road and turn left here. After approx. 100 m, turn right and follow the meadow path towards the centre. Passing the church, you reach the finish point of the first stage of the WaiWi in front of the information office.
