Did you know that the Kaisertal was voted the most beautiful place in Austria in 2016? On the way to the Anton Karg House, you will soon realize how well-deserved this title is, as a picture-book mountain panorama accompanies you on this easy hike in the Kaisertal nature reserve.
The approach to the Anton Karg House begins in Kufstein and leads up the many steps of the Kaisertaltreppe right at the start. Further up, you reach the car- and bike-free forest road, which you now follow through the beautiful Kaisertal valley to Hinterbärenbad. We also recommend taking the only slightly longer option via the Antonius Chapel, which is probably the most famous photo motif in the Kaiser Mountains.
Tip: You can download a pdf of the "Bear Trail" from the Anton Karg House website. Children can use it to answer numerous questions during the three-hour hike.
The tour begins at the entrance to the Kaisertal, which you reach via approximately 280 steps. Until 2008, this valley was only connected to civilization by these steps. Since then, a tunnel for residents has made supplying the valley easier. Shortly after climbing the steps, you’ll catch your first glimpse of the wild, rugged massif of the Kaiser Mountains.
After passing the Veitenhof inn, the steepest section is behind you. You continue on the gravel-paved main trail into the valley, passing Pfandlhof and several mountain farms. The popular photo spot, Antonius Chapel, is visible from a distance. It draws attention both to itself and to the alpine mountain massif in the background.
Just after the chapel, the path changes into a forest trail that leads down to the Kaiserbach stream, which you see here for the first time since the start. The lively stream winds its way to the Anton-Karg-Haus, also known as Hinterbärenbad. The trail follows the stream all the way to the destination, where you can take a break.
To return, simply follow the same path back out of the valley to the starting point at the "Kaiseraufstieg."
