Description

A very scenic circular route past the Heiligwasser pilgrimage church and the Heiligwasser alpine restaurant and guesthouse

The route starts on Bilgeristraße road at the former bottom lift station of the Patscherkofelbahn cable car and heads west into the Kurpark spa gardens. Before reaching Congress Igls, take the path off to the left towards the forest. Follow the route as it leads gently uphill to Römerstraße road, cross the road and then head right along the Speckbacherweg path. The route passes the southern side of a small hill, the Goldbichl, which was an important religious site during the Bronze Age. Just above the Grünwalderhof, turn left and follow the path uphill towards Heiligwasser. Continue past the pilgrimage church and the guesthouse and then follow the route as it leads downhill and subsequently back towards Igls. Cross Römerstraße road and follow Badhausstraße road as far as the golf course. From there, turn off the road and continue through the forest back to the Heiligwasserweg trail. Follow the Heiligwasserweg back to the starting point.

Our tip: You can view archaeological finds from the Goldbichl excavation site in a small museum in the centre of Igls. The museum is located in "Haus des Gastes", the same building as Igls Tourist Information, on the first floor.
