Description

You start by descending steeply along trail No. 502, then you proceed almost level southward across meadows and along the Riepenbach. Afterward, the trail, still bearing the same number, winds down in numerous switchbacks on a well-developed path to the Schlegeis reservoir. At the lakeside road, you turn right and cross the bridge just after the large parking lot. From there, you head left towards the Jausenstation Zamsgatterl, 1.785 m. After about 3.5 km on the access road, you reach the end of the reservoir and cross the stream to reach the fork in the road. Here, you turn right and hike approximately 1 km gently uphill towards the Schlegeiskees glacier, before trail No. 502 branches off to the left (eastward) towards the hut. You ascend the steep slope in numerous hairpin turns on a staircase-like path between the Waterleklamm gorge and the Furtschaglbach until you finally arrive at the Furtschaglhaus, 2.295 m, via moderately ascending meadows.
