Your thighs are still tired and it's hard to start walking? That's quite normal, after all, we've already done five days of hiking. Now the long-distance hiking rhythm pays off: pack, check the weather and route, start walking and bang, after a few minutes your body and mind are back in "walk mode". Even the marmots whistle appreciatively. Kasseler Hütte: here we come!
Medium-difficulty stage on red mountain paths. Sure-footedness and a good level of fitness are required. Steep climbs in places require full concentration and a solid walking technique. The trail leads through a gorge secured by ropes.
From the Greizer Hütte, 2.227 m, head northwards over rocky slopes towards Gigalitz, 3.001 m. Continue ascending in small switchbacks until you reach the col between Gigalitzturm and Lapenspitze, 2.700 m. From the col, keep left along the rocks of Gigalitz and descend to a moraine ridge. At a noticeably large rock, the path turns right, while the trail straight ahead leads down into the valley to the Grüne Wand Hütte, 1.436 m. Continuing on your way, you will reach the cable-secured Elsenklamm. The high trail then leads through the cirques above the inner Stillupgrund, below the Greizer Spitze, 3.010 m, the Löffler, 3.379 m, and the Keilbachspitze, 3.094 m, until you finally reach the Kasseler Hütte, 2.178 m.
