Bus line 501 to Thaur
Today we are travelling through part of the Karwendel Nature Park. After a long ascent, we descend into the Halltal valley and out to Gnadenwald.
From Thaur we walk up to the Romedikirchl church, visible from afar, and to the ruins of Thaur Castle. From here we follow the old Thaurer Alm Steig to the Thaurer Alm. The first ascent is completed here and we can let our gaze wander from the alpine terrace.
We continue in an easterly direction above the Thaurer Klamm gorge to the scenic Kaisersäule powerhouse. From here we have another marvellous view of the Inntal valley and the Stubai glaciers.
Behind the Kaisersäule, we head eastwards to the Törl, the crossing into the Halltal. Here you have a breathtaking view of the Lafatscherjoch and the Bettelwurf massif. If you look closely, you will also recognise the Bettelwurf hut perched on the steep mountain slopes. From the Törl, the trail descends into the legendary, rugged Halltal valley. (this section of the trail should be crossed quickly).
Continue past the manor houses to the St. Magdalena inn and continue along the Fluchtsteig trail until you branch off at the Bergerkapelle chapel in the direction of the Besinnungsweg/Gnadenwald trail. Follow this for the last stretch until you reach your destination Gnadenwald.
