Description

On the route between the middle station and the Kohleralmhof, the hiking trail leads up into the forest along a number of hairpin bends. When you come to the first fork, keep left and head along the narrow ascending forest path in the direction of the Geolsalm. After crossing the stream and forest road, the final section of this route
continues the ascent through the forest until you reach a turnstile. Pass through this turnstile and complete your ascent across gentle mountain meadows from which you will already be able to see the Geolsalm snack station (1733 m). Below the Geolsalm, the hiking trail remains relatively level and delights with stunning views both into the valley and out towards the Spieljochbahn cable car. The trail ends 200 m below the mountain station, with a wide gravel trail leading directly to the Mountain Loft Restaurant and the gondola lift.
Alternative: If you take the steeply ascending panoramic trail that heads up from the Geolsalm, you can hike across Alpine pastures and a short rocky section to reach the Spieljoch summit cross. From there, you can make your descent to the mountain station. Of course, you can also ride the Spieljochbahn cable car to the mountain station and follow the hiking trail that leads to the Geolsalm and on to the middle station. You can
even hike down into the valley all the way to Fügen.

stop off possibilities: Kohleralmhof, Geolsalm, Mountain Loft Spieljoch
