Description

Starting from the car park at Mizun reservoir in the upper Zillertal valley (located directly on the Zillertaler Höhenstraße mountain road), you head left and embark on a gentle ascent along a wide forest road that leads past the Mizunalm pasture and on to the Kristallhütte hut. Once at the top, you can either head left to the hut (past the spider art installation) or go right and follow the signpost for the Stoamandlweg trail/Wimbachkopf mountain/Wedelhütte hut. After a brief descent on the forest road, you then complete a gentle ascent across Alpine meadows and then through more rugged rocky terrain en route to the Wimbachkopf summit at 2442 m. The summit plateau is home to a number of cairns that are known locally as ‘Stoamandl’ and give the trail its name. It also boasts a fantastic panorama of the Zillertal valley, the 3000-meter peaks of the Tux Alps, and Hochfügen. Once you have passed the cross, the occasionally steep descent to the Wedelhütte hut begins. A wide forestry road then leads from this hut past another reservoir and back to the Mizun reservoir.

stop off possibilites: Kristallhütte, Wedelhütte, Platzlalm, Zirmstadl, Kaltenbacher Skihütte
