We love them, these lesser-known, sometimes underrated insider tip hikes. Here's one of them.
Basically an easy ridge hike over the Kugelwand and Harauspitze. However, surefootedness is required in places on short, narrow and steeper sections. The hike often runs through forests, but there are always views of the gentle Chiemgau Alps, Lake Walchsee and the rugged Kaiser Mountains. Beautiful viewing benches along the way. Another plus point: there are three mountain huts along the trail with long seasonal opening times.
Starting point is at the parking lot football field. Take the forest path in the direction of Ottenalm/Riederalm, from there turn right and pass the iron gate, first on a wide forest path, then on a slightly steeper forest hiking trail to the Kugelwand. A detour to the observation deck is worth it! The trail winds over the ridge through the mixed forest along the Harausattel to the Harauspitze. After a few steps you will see on the left side the exit of the climbing arena Kaiserwinkl. At the crossroads on the left, take the descent over steep steps to the Ottenalm. On the forest path, past the Riederalm (refreshment option) back to the starting point.

Parking Ottenalm opposite the football field in Walchsee. There are no e-charging stations.
Parking lot is free with the Kaiserwinkl Card.
