Mountain hikes Muhs panorama trail

Difficulty ratings: medium
Route length: 15 km
Duration: 6:00 h

Who knows the Muhs Panorama Trail? Never heard of it - then it's high time you paid a visit to the Virgental Valley in East Tyrol. Because the trail has it all: lake, hut, views of high glacier peaks.

Tour character

Quiet high-altitude trail in the Virgental valley between Berger See Hütte and Lasnitzenhütte with a dream panorama of the Venediger group. The Muhs highlights include the deep blue Bergersee lake, the great "show run" in front of the glacier mountains of the Venediger group, the panoramic lunch break below the Muhsköpfl and the beautiful Lasnitzental valley. However, these highlights have to be earned first, as the ascent to the Berger-See-Hütte is steep. No special requirements apart from surefootedness.

Description

On the Muhs panorama trail a wonderful panoramic view to the three-thousand metre mountains of the Venediger group open up!

The starting point is the parking place behind sawmill Dorfer Säge. From here, proceed initially on the road to Lasnitzenhütte. After around 30 minutes you have to decide whether you will take the direct ascent to Bergersee Hütte or continue on the road to Lasnitzenhütte. The majority of hikers prefer the steep ascent to Bergersee Hütte and the easier descent from Lasnitzenhütte via the road, which is why this variant is described too. Proceed initially via route 312 which proceeds steeply up via the woodlands until you reach a forest trail, where the route proceeds east for a short section. Before the end of this route continue in hairpin bends, relatively steeply, until you come to a little Jagdhütte, which is concealed beneath a cliff.

The middle section of the climb now climbs slightly until the crossing point of Zopatnitzenbach. The route is then really quite steep after this and it is an arduous trek up to Bergersee Hütte, which is located in a basin, right next to the wonderful Lake Bergersee.

Continue now on the actual Muhs panorama trail, which is beautifully developed, climbing slightly to the highest point 2356 m (Muhs).

The descent to Lasnitzenhütte proceeds on the route which was overhauled in 2012 and which is also great for families hiking with children. From Lasnitzenhütte the descent proceeds via the wide trail to the starting point at the parking place for the Dorfer sawmill.
