Medium-difficulty long-distance hiking trail in East Tyrol along the entire course of the River Isel, from where the glacial river flows into the Drau in Lienz to its source at the Umbalkees in the Venediger Group. The biggest attractions are the Isel Gorge in the central Virgen Valley and a series of waterfalls, above all the Umbal Falls, which, like the Isel Gorge, are accessible via viewing platforms. Divided into five stages, the route is particularly suitable for nature lovers, pleasure hikers and families with children who enjoy walking. The first two stages are a leisurely hike without any noticeable incline. Slightly steeper climbs on the last two stages, but without any particular technical difficulties. Various places to stop for refreshments and overnight accommodation along the way.
Travel to Lienz by express bus 960x from Innsbruck, or by train from Vienna. Free use of public transport in East Tyrol with a valid guest card.

The Iseltrail is divided into sections of varying lengths, each of which runs between villages with opportunities for refreshments and overnight stays. The Iseltrail can therefore be walked quite flexibly - depending on your mood, condition, need for recreation or joy of riding out. Below you will find a suggestion for 5 stages!
