Mountain hikes Hintere Goinger Halt summit tour

Difficulty ratings: difficult
Route length: 8.9 km
Duration: 6:30 h

Stop! While you're up here, you should also take time to enjoy the magnificent panorama of the Christaturm, Totenkirchl and Predigtstuhl. And if that's too ecclesiastical for you, you can always look up to the summit of the Fleischbank.

Tour character

Challenging but rewarding mountain tour to the highest peak in the Ostkaiser. From the alpine pasture area, the trail initially leads moderately to the Gruttenhütte, a popular stopover, before the ascent becomes steeper and rockier. The alpine trail has exposed passages and sections secured by ropes and requires surefootedness, a head for heights and alpine experience. This tour is physically demanding and only suitable for experienced mountain hikers - but rewards you with magnificent views over the Kaiser Mountains.

Description

Ascent:
From the hiking starting point at the Wochenbrunner Alm, follow the forest road to the Gaudeamushütte. After the hut, follow trail 812/813 in the direction of "Ellmauer Tor". Hike in serpentines through mountain pines to the junction with the Wilden-Kaiser-Steig. At the "Jubiläumssteig" junction, follow trail 812 to the right over the scree field (Kübelkar). After a rocky steep step (partly secured with steel ropes), continue over further scree fields and a final rock step into the Ellmauer Tor, 1,980 m (up to here approx. 900 m altitude).
From Ellmauer Tor, follow the signs to Hintere Goinger Halt in an easterly direction. Via an initially steep, rocky terrain interspersed with grass and scree and later rocky passages (a short section secured with an iron chain), you reach the final upswing, where the route climbs gently to the summit. Enjoy the fantastic panoramic view from the Steinerne Rinne with the historic climbing walls of the Fleischbank, as far as the Chiemsee, the Fritz-Pflaum-Hütte in the heart of the Ostkaiser and the Hohe Tauern to the south.
