Description
Köfels, a small rural village in the Tyrolean Ötztal, is located on a sunny plateau at 1,400 m above sea level. The village is surrounded by meadows and forest and a central starting point for charming mountain hikes as well as mountain tours. From the car park "Mure" in the center of Umhausen the easy hiking trail starts. By the parish church you turn right in the "Hintere Gasse" and walk further and past the Hotel Johanna in the direction to the hamlet Neudorf. At the end of the hamlet Neudorf you walk down to the "Fundus bridge", cross this and turn left and walk along the Ötztaler Ache further to Grantau. Now you hike first along the road, then through the forest until you finally reach Köfels. A stop at the Alpengasthof Köfels or in the Jausenstation Edelweiß, where you can take a break and relax, is definitely worthwhile. Köfels is also accessible by car.
