Description
All those who believe that no good meal is complete without a fine wine should pull on their hiking boots and head up to the Angerer Alm. This walk of intermediate difficulty leads from St. Johann in Tirol to the picturesque Angerer Alm, which has become famous for its wine cellar. Annemarie Foidl, owner of the restaurant and president of the Austrian Association of Sommeliers, has accumulated an incredible 6,000 bottles, including a number of rare wines. It is the only wine cellar of its kind," says award-winning chef Alexander Fankhauser, "and Annemarie is the perfect person to advise guests on the right wine for their meal." The quality of the wines in the cellar is matched by the quality of the food prepared in the kitchen by her daughter, Katharina, and husband Gerald Weiss. Many of the traditional dishes served in the cosy surroundings of the hut's restaurant are made using produce from the local region.
